Child Abesity is Unhealthy

Not even a crazy situation like childhood diabetes or high blood pressure, can push a child close to catastrophe as much as child obesity can. The claim, coming from extensive research done on thousands of children is that obesity children are twice as likely as any normal child, to die by the age of 55, either through falling ill or through suicide. If you like to read the New England Journal of Medicine, you’d see this obesity article in a recent issue. What makes this study on child obesity so compelling is that they took the trouble to pick thousands of children for their research, and to follow them for decades.

Take Care of Child Obesity Now

So, when it comes to child obesity, this isn’t something that can be taken care of later. If the child is obese now it will more than likely have effects on their life expectancy and health, 40 years later, even if they pull themselves together and lose weight by then. Of course, to late-night talk show hosts and stand-up comedians around the country, kids obesity has been a big source of cheap laughs for years. But, when it comes to obesity in America, this is really no laughing matter since one in three children in America falls in the overweight or obesity category. Something really serious in the body appears to get damaged with obese children. And so, perhaps it is just as well that the first lady, Michelle Obama, is following up her campaign to get America to each more greens, with a campaign to end obesity in childhood.

The study actually took up and followed ten-year-old children who lived in Indian reservations, starting around the year 1945. They happened to pick American Indian children, because the obesity problem started out much earlier in that population than it did in the general American population. They kept following those very children until many of them began to die by the year 2000 of poor health. Plenty more were lost to alcoholism and drugs. This was not something that happened to the thin children as they grew up. Kids who suffered from child obesity, were more than twice as likely to die by 55; children with high glucose levels, were one-and-a-half times more likely to die by that age too.

Child Obesity Can Cause Other Health Problems

Child obesity isn’t just bad because it makes children likely to be affected by other symptoms. Childhood obesity is just dangerous in and of itself. It may be easy to dismiss a study like this, pointing to how it was done on a different race of people altogether. But, they found that American Indians in their health, always seem to lead the rest of the nation by a few decades. By studying this group of people on the causes of child obesity or even other illnesses, seems to always give scientists a window into the future.

Encourage Healthy Eating For Kids

It is ashamed that more parents do not encourage healthy eating for kids. Although many of us were raised with the idea that everyone should eat healthy, many of us sadly fail to actually do so. So, instead of eating healthy we embrace the world of fast food, soft drinks, and countless other processed foods that can be eaten on the go. One of the main reasons we all choose these unhealthy foods is because they taste good. However, there are plenty of healthy foods that taste good as well which can help you have a healthy living. You just have to give these healthy meals a try in order to see. If you are not sure you want to put in the effort, just consider what you would be doing for your kids health. Don’t you want them to grow up as healthy kids and live long lives? I am sure you do, so the sooner you start to encourage healthy eating for your kids, the better.

Keys to Healthy Eating For Kids

I don’t think it’s that difficult to get started employing healthy eating for kids in your home. The key to eating healthy for kids is to get them started early on. This way it is what they know. If you eat health foods, you set the ultimate example for the children. Sadly if you fail to eat healthy foods, then your kids may not take you seriously. This means they will probably not want to eat healthy fruits, vegetables and whole grains either. So if you can, instill healthy eating habits into them at an early age. It will make it much easier to keep them eating healthy in the future. When it comes to nutrition for kids, the first years are a crucial time in their lives. Think about this when you are feeding your kids food each day. You are molding them to some degree.

Foods to Consider For Healthy Eating For Kids

So, what should you eat? Well, if you are striving to get healthy eating habits for kids started in your home, here are some healthy foods you should consider moving towards. All fresh fruits and vegetables are highly recommended. These items can also be given as healthy snacks for kids. The reality is you should be consuming six to eight servings of these each day. Most people do not do this, but try and eat as many as you can. Healthy eating for kids also involves whole grains like whole wheat bread and rice. Oatmeal makes a wonderful healthy breakfast food for kids. Avoid white breads that break down as refined sugars in your body. They provide minimal energy and get started as fat. You don’t want this, since it will lead to major weight gain over time.

If you are considering healthy eating for kids, you should probably steer clear of fast foods, unless of course it is a healthy fast food. Maybe, fast food should be a rare treat. Although the majority of Americans consume fast food twice daily, you should really refrain from eating these unhealthy foods altogether. If you love fast food, try to only eat it about once each month. This way your body has a chance to rejuvenate and heal. As for beverages, the primary drinks your kid should embrace are water, low-fat milk and real fruit juices. Soft drinks are horrible for you body, as are many fake juice products out there these days.

Is Potty Training Children Stressful?

Most parents would rather have their children in diapers than go through the stress that comes with potty training children. However, it is every parent’s responsibility to equip children with independent skills to match their development. For potty training, this usually comes between the ages of 1½ years and 3 years. Most parents eager to start potty training their children do not know when to start the process. When it comes to potty training children, some of the indicators that a parent or a care-taker should look out for include regular bowel in children, and children displaying discomfort whenever they wet their diaper.

Make Potty Training Children Fun

First of all, I think parents should try to make potty training children as much fun as possible. Some children start asking to wear regular underwear, while others ask to use potties. Usually, this happens in children who are able to express themselves as well as follow instructions. Keen parents are able to tell when the child is about to have a bowel movement mainly by observing their posture, facial expression or by paying attention to what they say. These observations are a good starting point for parents or care-takers to help potty train their child and to encourage them to use potties. This should however not be mistaken to mean that the child, however uncomfortable he or she is with wet diapers will take the potty training exercise well.

Potty Training Children Should Not be Forced

In addition, potty training children should not be a forced exercise. Forcing the child to sit on the potty will only make the child headstrong about not sitting on the potty. However, parents and caretakers should devise ways of making the potty training exercise enjoyable for the child. For example, whenever parents are potty training boys or girls, the parent can bring toys to the child whenever he or she is sitting on the potty. The parent should also ensure that the toddler potty is comfortable to sit on. Even when the child sits on the potty without urinating or emptying his/her bowels, the parent should not be discouraged. Sooner or later the child will pick up on the toilet training and learn what to do while sitting their.

Furthermore, potty training children also takes a lot of encouragement directed to the child. So, whenever parents are parenting toddlers on potty training, they should ensure that any positive action by the child should be praised and encouraged. This should include when the child first sits on the potty, their first attempt to put some content in the potty, and their first attempt to use the potty without being prompted by the parent. Parents should only keep the children seated on the potties for a short period each time.

Finally, when it comes to potty training children, the parent should postpone the toilet training if he or she continually resists using it. The parent should also avoid pushing the child too hard or punishing him or her for mistakes done while using the potty. Well, hopefully some of these potty training tips will help you learn how to potty train a toddler.

Parenting Teens Can be Hard

How are you suppose to get on with the task of parenting teens when even the most basic questions that anyone would want to ask, throw up a barrage of resentment and exasperation in response? The way your teen would see it, there is just no other mother out there who is as maniacally obsessive about curbing her freedom, and no one as intrusive. If you had a young child and he wanted to do something that wasn’t good for him, you would certainly have no trouble turning him down, with a little sternness, if needed. It wouldn’t really matter if he cried or kicked up a tantrum. A teen can be a strange creature. They look like an adult, but still seem to have the mind of a child. A person who is parenting teens in EU would understandably have a harder time ignoring a tantrum thrown by a teen.

Are You New to Parenting Teens?

Even mothers and fathers who are new to parenting teens do recognize that their adolescents just don’t seem entirely logical half the time. And they would be right. The way the human brain develops, not all areas grow consistently or uniformly. And what do you expect when that happens? Some things seem more important than they need to be, like what their friends think of them, and others seem less important, like sensible basic rules about safety. Of course, some people never really outgrow what the scientists call “lopsided team development”. Like in the movie Stepmom, women openly wonder often if boys are such babies just to practise for the time that they would need to be husbands. But as insistent as your teen might get, it is important that you remember that behind all the sound and fury, your teen counts on you to keep providing a steady level of resistance. You have to know that as unreasonable as he is, he almost never does anything entirely unreasonable. He knows how far to go by looking at the intensity of your resistance to his actions. All you need to do, is to keep doing your job.

Dealing With Parenting Teens

So how do you know what exactly that is when you are parenting teens? Well, first you have to understand the rules of the game. Children are supposed to lie to their parents. It is their God-given right, to try to get away with as much as they can, while you try to catch them at it. There may not be much logic to the game, but there you have it. As long as you don’t make a federal case of it, you need to keep trying to catch him at something, and pretending that it is a huge deal if you did stumble on something, and he would have to pretend that it would be a huge deal if you did catch him. It’s a fun game and everyone gains. Just make it abundantly clear that there will be a few ground rules because you care for him. As troublesome as they are, he can allow you those if you make it clear that this is just something that parents have to do.

You probably see a thread here of discipline mixed with caring. Discipline works as long as your child sees from constant demonstration that nothing in the world matters to you more than him. Your teen may behave very strangely, but somewhere in there is a human waiting to burst forth. Just do all you need to do, with love and discipline, without taking too personally the over the top behavior you get from him. You need to be strong but not rigid. Parenting teens can be fun really, as long as you keep in mind that it’s not forever.

Product Description
There isn’t a mom on the planet who hasn’t expressed frustration at not knowing why her baby is crying. “If only she could tell me what’s bothering her!” is a sentiment frequently expressed by moms about their wailing babies. Imagine how great it would be if babies could say why they’re crying — or that they want more juice, have a tummy ache, or need a hug.

Teaching babies sign language deepens the parent-child relationship and, studies show, makes it easier for babies to learn to speak and read.

This card deck, the first of its kind developed to teach sign language to hearing babies, contains flash cards with the 50 most important words you can teach your baby: mommy, daddy, enough, more, juice, hurt, happy, love, and so on. The deck also contains a 16-page booklet with helpful tips.
