If perhaps you feel that you have been trying to be a super mom, forget that! Your child parenting voyage is going to be much happier and more exciting when you are ready to relax and gain knowledge along the route. Get ready to modify your perceptions and beliefs as you go along. As your child develops from baby to toddler to teenage and even to adult stage, you will definitely find parenting problems posing as a difficult task to you. You just get different sets of problems, that’s all, so quit trying to be perfect!
However, to assist you on your child parenting journey and make it a more fun and memorable experience, here are 3 proven effective tips for you.
1. Use Positive Rather Than Negative Means
A lot of time, parents often focus their attention on correcting their children’s mistakes and in their eagerness, they forget to praise their kids for their good behaviours. What parents do not realise is that the child’s good behaviors are not being enforced!
In order for your child to learn the rights and the wrongs, it is vital that you acknowledge your children’s good behaviors while you catch and correct their bad ones. It is an indication to your children that you know and appreciate what they are doing.
As a mother of two, I get the privilege of observing my twins when they are with me so that I can teach them on the spot. I will not hesitate to stop my boy and will also scold him gently when he pushes his twin sister or hits her. However, I also ensure that I shower him with praises and comment on his good behaviors too when I catch sight of him doing things like sharing his food or toys with his sister. This will help my children to learn the correct values – know what is right and what is wrong.
2. Put Aside Daily Personal Time For Each Of Your Children
In order to be successful in child parenting, a vital thing you must do first of all is to build strong bonds with your children by allocating personal time for each of them. You can set aside 30 minutes each day or at least 2 hours each week for a personal time. In this way, you will have time to speak to each of them individually about their day but you must ensure that this is strictly personal time so there should not be any other interruptions.
Personal time can be done together as a family whereby you sing, play and chat with your very young children. You can use the time to read them a story before they sleep. Don’t forget to show your love for your children by giving them lots of love, hugs and kisses.
3. Abstain From Physical Punishment
Gone are the days when parents use physical punishment to enforce a rule on their children. It has been found in various studies that children who have lived under such bitter and harsh environment will end up becoming aggressive and beyong control when they enter adulthood. Rather than using the rod to force your child into obedience, a much better and proven to be more effective child parenting model is via reasoning and love. Should any of your kids break a rule, you can make them clean up the mess or take away a privilege.
